Minutes of the September 26 meeting
Saturday's meeting convened at about 9:30 A.M. along with coffee and much good cheer!
The agenda for the meeting was as follows (Blue):-
1. Upcoming exhibits.
Some considerable discussion was given to the idea of exhibits when, where and why - everyone seemed committed to Reed-Turner in May and thought that it would be great to have another larger exhibit (at a different venue) in early spring, perhaps along the lines of the earlier Ryerson exhibit. This might be the exact timing for the Kenosa exhibit that Ann is organizing for 2011.
2. The up-coming ASBA Conference. Who exactly is going and some thoughts we might share before all get there.
A number of us are heading out to Phoenix in mid-October for the ASBA Conference. We all agreed to try and get together for dinner one evening and decided that after the Friday evening, 16th October Wildflower Forum would be the best and most convenient of times.
3. The ASBA exhibit in St. Louis - who might be planning to go down for the opening?
It seemed that after some discussion the number of people traveling to St. Louis for the opening of the Loosing Paradise? Exhibit is still uncertain.
Heeyoung seems committed, Kathleen plans on going down early p.m. and driving back after the reception - and I'm still pondering and will not make a decision until early next week. The exhibit will be opening at the Chicago Botanic Garden in January.
4. Show and tell after the summer season would be terrific. I know a lot of people have a lot of work to share and it would be fun to see what has been done this summer.
Show n' Tell brought forth some very beautiful new work - it continues to be one of the highlights of the Saturday meetings.
5. New Business.
Barbara P presented a new financial statement - considering the recession you'll be pleased to know that we're still in business
and looking modestly healthy. There was discussion about bringing in a speaker once in a while - Carol Woodin may be here for the opening of Loosing Paradise?
and would be willing to do a Saturday class on painting on vellum - her specialty.
Assuming we have enough interest.
The meeting adjourned at approximately noon.
Derek Norman
Minutes of the August 29 meeting
Seven artists attended. All signed in.
1. We talked about the possible change in the September 26 meeting date to October 3rd.
Unanswered questions: What is the purpose of the meeting? Is it social or should we bring art work?
When will the date change be confirmed? Please send an e-mail of the confirmation.
2. Barbara Papamarcos: The total amount in the Artists' fund as of 8/29/09 is $255.00
payouts to Reed-Turner Woodlands = $374.00

Reed-Turner Woodlands for Barbara Turner's birthday $50.00
3. Missouri Botanical Gardens "Losing Paradise": Ku-mie Kim would like to go before October 7th because the 7th is a work day. The exhibit opens on October 1st. Anyone
interested in going before the 7th?
- dates for "Losing Paradise" at the Chicago Botanic Garden - January 16-April 4, 2010.
5. SHOW & TELL: Lots of beautiful art was shown & shared. Lots of color mixing formulas and techniques talked about.
Minutes of the July 25 meeting
Report of the Reed-Turner Artists' Circle at Long Grove - Saturday, 25th July 2009.
A small group of members were in attendance and met informally to welcome Lynne Railsback to the Circle.
Since no official business was on the agenda the Circle discussed and reviewed each others work, exchanged ideas, notably the possibility of welcoming the Lake County Art League to the Preserve and the Circle on Saturday, 3rd October 2009. Jane W was in attendance and is aware of the possibility.
Beverly had mentioned a possible visit by Chris Tanner on Saturday, 25th July but Chris, it seems, did not put in an appearance. In regard to 3rd October it was decided that this should be a item for discussion at the August meeting.
Ann's initiative in regard to a Kenosha Exhibit was also discussed and that too was thought appropriate for further discussion at the next meeting or at such time that Ann has more information.
The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m. by way of a walk-about of the Preserve.
As an addendum we should add that Beverly has an opening reception at the Wilmette Public Library, Friday, 31st July from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The exhibit runs through 23rd August.
Additionally, thanks to Kathleen and Ann for having updated the Member Application Form so that our name is now consistent with the newly created ASBA designated Artists' Circles. (A copy is attached for those who have not seen it). 'Circle' has an inviting ring to it - so welcome all!
Derek.

1. Review of Reed-Turner Show held May 17-18, 2008.
Jackie Willrich, who volunteered to handle finances at the show, reported total sales of $1,396.00. The majority of business was on Saturday, with $200 on Sunday. Prints and note cards sold; original artwork did not sell. Jackie suggested some considerations for future sales events, and after discussion the following decisions were made by general consensus:
• Require an inventory list from each artist.
• Provide cash at the beginning.
• Consider opening a bank account.
• Supply paper clips, pens, pencils, etc.
• Develop a list of directions for the receipt book – so that sales are handled uniformly, i.e., indicate cash or check, list check numbers on the receipts.
• Provide artists’ business cards to customers.
• Follow-up: artists send notices of subsequent shows and sale events to their respective customers.
• Collect $10 from each artist who participated.
• See about signs. Small notices are allowed in local stores.
• Provide refreshments -- cookies, no beverages.
Barbara Klaas, who handled publicity, reported on the number of publications receiving news releases. She noted that most of the customers were from nearby. Signage was discussed.
2. Display Cases at Reed-Turner. Eilene LaBarre volunteered for this responsibility.
3. Ela Library Show.
Barbara Klaas is in charge of this show. A sign-up sheet was circulated. Please contact Barbara if you wish to be included.
Each artist may have one piece in the show, so far, an original or a print, no larger than 16 x 20” ready for hanging.
Delivery date is Tuesday, July 1, Ela Library (at Route 22 and Old Rand Road) 10:00 am; and removal is Thursday, July 31. Please call or e-mail Barbara Klaas if you need to make other arrangements.
If someone wishes to buy a painting in this show, they may contact Barbara Klaas.
4. Prices of prints.
Discussion took place, and it was the general consensus that pricing should be consistent, so that no one is undercut. A guideline of prices was suggested as follows:
5 x 7” (opening) $40
8 x 10 “ $85
11 x 14 “ $100
13 x 19 “ $125

Discuss involved looking into the possibility of making this either an annual, or a bi-annual show. It might depend upon the availability of funding. Perhaps Anne Gilna would be able to look into this. Also, we need information regarding the process of picking up the art work at the conclusion of the show. Again, perhaps Anne will share that information with those of us who will need to do so.
2. Derek mentioned that he has had conversations with a representative from Independence Grove regarding a possibility of showing our work there. He also informed us of a possible class on mounting and framing art work to be offered through the Botanic Garden. For those of you who might be interested, a recent issue of the ASBA newsletter gives very specific guidelines for framing for their competitions.

If you are interested, please contact him for further information.
4. We discussed expanding our offices to include a historian (Barbara Papamarcos offered to take this on), and a publicity committee to help advertise our events. Barbara Klaas is willing to help. If anyone is willing to take that on, please let me know.
5. Cynthia Gehrie reminded us of the next ASBA show, to be held in Pasadena, CA., Octo 30-Nov. 1. Participants are able to bring 1 piece, with an outside perimeter of 47” or less, to be placed on display. What a great listing to add to your resume!
